Provincial Life Member Liaison Oral Report to Provincial Convention 2016 – Dodie Bond

I am pleased to say that we have one new Life Member this year so far, Agnes Geiger of Nanaimo, Victoria Diocese.  She is presently your Provincial Education & Health Chairperson for BC & Yukon.  We welcome and congratulate Agnes to the list of Life Members, which now makes our total of Life Members to be forty.

Catholic League members are nominated for Life Membership. Either Provincial or Diocesan Council submits the nomination.  Life membership is not intended to be a reward for years of service. If you are fortunate to have a Life Member in your council, please don’t be afraid to ask them for help.  If you feel that there is someone in your council or diocese that fits the criteria please don’t hesitate to nominate that person.  The criteria can be found on the BC & Yukon site as well as the National P&P.

We are broken up into six dioceses.  In each diocese we have a Life Member Liaison.  She is asked to pass on information that she has received from her Provincial Life Member Liaison to all the Life members in her diocese.  For Victoria we have out going Diocesan Life Member Liaison (DLML) Margaret Beardon, incoming Agnes Geiger of Nanaimo (new Life member), for Vancouver diocese we have Lois Charlebois, for Nelson we have outgoing Carol Penno and incoming Sandra Stajduhar, for Kamloops we have out going Lorraine Faherty and in coming Pat Dorigo, for Prince George we have outgoing Andrea McKenzie and incoming myself.  Last but not least the Yukon diocese DLML is Jeanne Wilson.

The Life members have a $500 Life Member’s Fine Arts & Culture Award.  Life Member Thelma Varco established this award in 2008.  The applicant of this award must be a high school graduate.  They can be a daughter/son and or granddaughter/grandson of a CWL member or a League member in good standing.  Last year we had a committee who revised and updated the criteria for this award.  The applicant must be involved in and entering into further education in an accredited school in the field of Fine Arts & Culture (e.g., dance, voice speech/drama, music, painting/art, design, etc.).  Please refer to our Provincial Web-site bcyukoncwl.com for all the forms and information on this Life Member initiative award.  This award is completely funded by the Life Members in the BC & Yukon.  I will be awarding this year’s recipient at the banquet.  Even though we only had one applicant this year, we still went through the selection process to make sure all the criteria were met.  Please promote this award in your councils.

This is my last time representing the BC & Yukon Life members.  The last four years have flown by.  It truly has been an honour to work for and with these wonderful ladies.  Although I am passing the torch on, I will still be there to help in any way I can.
