The Vancouver Diocese held their annual convention from May 5 to 7, 2022 with a combination of virtual and in-person meetings. The May 5th and 6th meetings were virtual with a total of 104 members participating. On May 7th, the gym at Our Lady of Sorrows in Vancouver was rocking with 165 members and nine who joined on-line.

Deceased members were remembered in a special ceremony and tributes were offered to Father Thomas Smith for his nine years as diocesan spiritual adviser. Barbara was honored for her tireless work as president while members sang, “Hey Barb” to the tune of “Hey Jude.” Six regional reports consolidated 57 parish council reports and this was appreciated by members.

After enjoying a bagged lunch, one of the spiritual advisors said, “I need a nap after eating so much.” And he did! Members serenaded life member, Pat Battensby in celebration of her 90th birthday. The money collected was donated to the Domestic Abuse Society and Talitha Koum, who also had tables with sale items and information.

The instructed vote on the proposed amendments to national’s Constitution and Bylaws was followed by the election of the new diocesan executive. The new spiritual advisor, Father James Hughes and the new executive were installed at Mass. A beautiful rose ceremony ended the evening.

Members shared their appreciation for the convention and eagerly await 2023!
