Diocesan conventions are over and I would like to welcome our new diocesan president-elect/organization chairpersons: in Kamloops Lynne Langley in Vancouver Sherray Duran and in Prince George 2nd Vice President/Organization Chair Maria Tejero. Congratulations. Thank you for all your service in the League and I hope you will enjoy your term.
Just to remind you that when you register for the National Convention in Calgary, August 18-21 to sign up for the provincial dinner which we will be having this year.
Provincial convention Subsidy:
A reminder that there is a $500 subsidy available to two (2) members from each of the six (6) dioceses, to include one member of the diocesan executive and one general member (this member may also be on the diocesan executive),neither of whom is having their way fully paid by another level of the League, to attend the upcoming Provincial Convention. If only two applicants are received from a diocese they will be declared to be awarded the subsidy, however, one must be a member of the diocesan executive,
Complete the form, which can be found on the BC & Yukon provincial CWL website, and return to me prior to May 10, successful applicants will be notified within 12 days. Those who have not received this subsidy in the past are eligible to apply. Cheques will be issued by the provincial treasurer at the provincial convention registration desk.
A summary of the convention attended must be completed on the report form of this application and be submitted to the current provincial organization chairperson with a copy submitted to the applicant’s parish or diocesan president within 30 days of the convention.
I know that this is a late reminder but I have only 4 applicants who have applied.
National chairperson of Organization/President-elect Fran Lucas states in her recent memo that per capita fees are very behind in being submitted. They were due February 28. At this point 25% of councils have unpaid remittances sitting in the online membership queue (of varying sizes, some just one and others more), and there are another 13% of councils that have not remitted any memberships this year so far!.
As you know all levels of the league are financed by per capita fees which allows for constant operation.
So please pass this on to your parish counterparts to get those per capita fees in ASAP.
There is an updated version of the Ceremonies Booklet which includes the 5 year pin acknowledgement, along with the new mission statement. It is available on the national website under Resources, 600 series Manuals item 603.
Just a reminder that the notice of nomination form needs to be completed in order to confirm that the nominee meets all criteria and is a worthy candidate for life membership. This notice of nomination is approved by motion by the diocesan/provincial executive at an executive meeting and is signed by the nominating council’s secretary and the nominating council’s president and mailed to the executive director at national office by September 15th. More information on life membership is in the national manual pages 32 to 34.
Members need to be encouraged to be leaders in the CWL. Provincial and National offer funds for league development. Take advantage of funds and train your members.
Encourage your members to attend both the Provincial and National conventions. They will learn many new things and they will meet new friends and renew old friendships.
May our Lady of Good Counsel guide you in all the work that you do for God and Canada.
