Dear Sisters in the League,

Welcome to a new season of CWL activities as many of us start in new positions. Hopefully you all had a wonderful summer and are now ready to take on new tasks. We pray for those suffering from the wildfires as well as the firefighters and emergency responders. The Whitehorse diocese has lost St. Theresa’s Mission Church in Telegraph Creek along with the rectory and many homes. You can donate to the Wildfires Relief Fund for Whitehorse Diocese at rcav.org/whitehorse/ or to help others, the BC government is matching donations by residents of British Columbia to the Red Cross BC Fire Appeal until October 12, 2018 up to 20 million.

It was a pleasure and honour for me to represent you at the national convention in Winnipeg. It is quite a different experience to sit at the executive table with so many talented and knowledgeable sisters in the League. We welcome our new national Spiritual Advisor, Bishop Jensen from Prince George and thank Bishop McGrattan for his service of 5 years to the CWL. We are enjoying the writeups from our own provincial Spiritual Advisor Fr. David John from the recent provincial and national conventions and I am looking forward to working with Fr. David in my term as provincial president. My goal is to provide you with information to help you grow in your position within the League. With Father David’s help, we will deepen our spirituality through education and programs as we work together as a team.

The new national theme was announced at the convention: “Caring for our Common Home” will come into effect on January 1, 2019

Planning Strategically: At the national convention the steering committee presented the “five year plan that encompassed all levels of the League, along with a proposed terms of reference for an implementation committee and a proposed process for periodic monitoring, evaluating and updating of the plan so as to ensure that planning strategically will become a process, not a document that could be filed and forgotten”. We have already received notice for implementation committee leads. Please encourage members to apply who you feel have the time and passion to contribute to implementing these strategies. As our Executive Director Kim Scammell states: It’s a huge undertaking!

God bless,
Gisela
