A Prayer for Mental Health
An Earth Day Prayer Service

This is my very last Provincial Communique! I have loved all the dedicated women I have met in my past seven years on the Provincial Council. Fr. Tran and Fr. Edwin Kulling have been inspiring Spiritual Advisors! As a Life Member and now Life Member Liaison for the Victoria Diocese I know I will continue to be involved.

Welcome to our two new Diocesan Spiritual Development Chairpersons Pat Darling from the Victoria Diocese and Yvette Despres from the Nelson Diocese. Thank-you to Pat Carew from Victoria Diocese and Caroline-Ann Alter from Nelson for their dedicated service to the League.

Deceased members: As I have said in the past, reporting of the deceased members has not gone well – there are huge gaps in National’s information and what is sent to the Provincial Spiritual Development Chairperson! Hopefully when the computer problems are resolved at National, this problem will decrease but I fear it will never be gone! In the meantime, Parish Council Spiritual Development Chairpersons need to continue to send the deceased member forms to National and the Diocesan Spiritual Development Chairpersons.

Repeating this important information for the two new Spiritual Development Chairpersons –

National Book of Life: My Question: If a “Long time Member, has not paid her dues for the year – is she included in the “Book of Life”? I know this question will come up again with our elderly members and more in Nursing Homes.”

National’s Answer: “We currently do not have a process or procedure that covers this question. To date, I have NOT been checking to see if the member is paid up to date. My position is that if the council cares enough about their deceased member to ask us to include her name in the Book of Life then I will do so. So until a process or procedure is agreed upon, I will continue to add names to the Book of Life, whether the deceased member has paid her dues up to date or not.” From Ingrid Taylor National CWL Office

NEWS: BC & Yukon Provincial Council has a new Provincial Spiritual Advisor for the next five years, Fr. David John from Sparwood. We also have a new National Spiritual Advisor, Bishop Stephen Jensen from the Prince George Diocese, both these Spiritual Advisors will be installed at the next Conventions.

ENCLOSURES: The two enclosures will be used at the Provincial Convention in Whitehorse, I’ve enclosed them for the Spiritual Development Chairpersons, in case you will not be in Whitehorse and would like to use them in the future.

Prayer for Reverence of Life

Almighty God, giver of all that is good, we thank You for the precious gift of human life:

  • for life in the womb, coming from Your creative powers,
  • for the life of children. making us glad with their freshness and promise,
  • for the life of young people, hoping for a better world,
  • for the life of people who are disabled, teaching us that every life has value
  • for the life of the elderly, witnessing to the ageless values of patience and wisdom.

Like Blessed Mary, may we say “YES” to your gift.

May we defend it and promote it from conception to its natural end, and bring us at last,

O Father, to the fullness of eternal life in Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen
