Now that the clocks have changed to Standard time, I begin to look to the end of the year.  And with year-end comes the ordeal of annual reports for our parish counterparts.

For returning treasurers, forgive me for being repetitive.  For new treasurers at all levels, here are a few comments:

  1. National Voluntary funds are reported separately by each parish council.  The report form (Available online at cwl.ca) has specific lines for each fund.
  2. Sometimes it is hard to fit a donation into a specific standing committee. The parish treasurer should enter it where it makes most sense to her.
  3. Whatever does not fit into a specific category should be entered in the line for “other” donations.
  4. Many parishes make annual donations in December. These are often standard amounts being sent to the council’s favourite charities.  Be sure to include them in the total, as the report is for the full calendar year.

Since National converted to online reporting for the 2016 year, they have been fine-tuning the survey.  I look forward to seeing further improvements for the 2019 year.

Canadian Catholic Development and Peace (CCODP)

 At this point in time, CCODP is not one of the National Voluntary Funds.  Due to the ongoing issues with CCODP, parish councils should contact their diocese to confirm whether donations are advisable.

I’m writing this on the Remembrance Day weekend, and my thoughts turn to St. Paul’s exhortation to the Ephesians (5:18-20) to be filled with God’s Spirit…giving thanks always for all things.    And on this weekend we should be giving thanks for the freedom that so many fought and died for.

Several years ago, at a professional organization’s annual banquet, I heard this Grace said before the meal.  To me it summarizes why I am grateful to live in Canada:

For food in a world where many walk in hunger;
For faith in a world where many walk in fear;
For friends in a world where many walk alone
We give You Thanks, O God.

MARY WAGNER

I had the opportunity this week to hear Mary Wagner speak at our local Life Compass (Pro-life) meeting.  She is such a gentle, loving and brave young woman.

In 2018, The BC Yukon Council arranged for a video interview of Mary.  It was shown at our Provincial Convention in 2018, and is available on YouTube.

CHRISTMAS WISHES

I want to take this opportunity to wish you all a wonderful Advent and Christmas season.
May God bless you throughout the new year.

May Our Lady of Good Counsel bless us all.
