Take Action

DATE: August 5, 2025
FROM: Sherray Duran, Provincial Social Justice

Due to the need of a timely response, I am sending this memo one month early.

Please read the accompanying letter from Sister Nancy Brown who wrote to the Honourable Sean Fraser, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada on Femicide.
”Femicide is defined as the killing of women and girls because of their gender. This includes various forms of violence against women, often perpetrated by intimate partners or family members.”
I asked Sister Nancy how could we, members of The Catholic Women’s League of Canada support her? Her response was to send letters, make phone calls or email the minister of justice expressing our support for the change in wording to the Criminal Code of Canada.

Who? Direct your communication to the Honourable Sean Fraser Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada.
Also, contact your MP – member of parliament.

What? State you support the change in the wording to the Criminal Code of Canada by adding the word “Femicide.”

Why? It is important for our Canadian government to understand we women support our murdered sisters and we must truthfully with clarity define what is happening to them.

When? Our correspondence must be timely. The federal parliament opens officially on September 15, 2025. Please send your responses prior to that date.

Where? The Honourable Sean Fraser, P. C., M.P.
Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada
House of Commons
Ottawa, ON K1A 0A6
